A man who has been operating a cannabis club in west Auckland for the last year plans to set up similar clubs throughout the country.

He calls himself “Dakta Green”, and claims his members have been freely flouting the law until police raided his house last week.

Members of the “Daktory” club, run by Mr Green, pay a fee to smoke cannabis.

“The objective when we opened this was to show the people of New Zealand, and the members of Parliament, that it’s possible to have a group of people from our culture get together and there wouldn’t be any trouble in the community,” he says.

Mr Green, previous name Ken Morgan, has been running Daktory for more than a year. At one stage he sold almost 20 types of cannabis, and claims he had 2,000 members.

“Our oldest member is in their late 70’s and our youngest members is not past 18,” he says.
There are no drugs there now – police raided the property last week, and also charged Green with cultivation.

Police could not be reached for comment today, but Green says he is not deterred – he’s got expansion plans.

As a member of the Pro Legislation Lobby he wants to set up similar clubs around the country.
“We will be heading on tour next month and visiting cities over the country, going to Parliament, and telling Parliament it’s time to stop this ridiculous nonsense,” Green says.

But first, Green will have to face court tomorrow.

  1. I just want to thank Dakta Green for standing up for what he believes in. Somebody must be the first to bring awareness to New Zealand that we are a conscious nation, and we should have the freedom to cultivate or smoke cannabis. Look at the states now and how they’re changing. Also the benefits of utilising industrial hemp have gone wholly unrecognised for many decades. It is the most amazing species of plant on earth and I think this is only the tip of the iceberg in the wider utilisation of the cannabis sativa species, both industrially and medically. Let the games begin. Vote ALCP,GREEN and change the future of the world!

You have my vote, the current laws only arrest good productive citizens who enjoy MJ. As a regular user myself i see no reason to be arrested. I work hard in a large business and earn a six figure salary, i pay a mortgage and support my wife. I have never been in trouble with the law, nor have i been arrested (touch wood)

I enjoy vaporizing MJ on a daily basis after work, i use it to relax and have my quiet time. I tend to watch the simpsons, drink some coffee and chill out.. There is no violence, no malice, no law breaking. I simply relax in the privacy of my own home.

However, in order to obtain my magical herb i often have to socialize with real criminals, drug dealers who are often peddling much more than herb. I risk jail times and fines for transporting the herb to my house, despite this, i will not stop.

I hope New Zealand can take the dutch approach and separate hard and soft drugs, there is a difference. 18+, tax it, legal to carry a few grams, no smoking and driving.
Anyone who has been to the Netherlands will know how its done correctly. By making it available under regulatory guidelines protects both the users and growers.

Promote responsible use of a substance the majority of our country already enjoys.
Common NZ, be smart. Pot smokers will not stop, the only way to enforce the current law would be to arrest the majority of NZ who regularly enjoy MJ..
And we all know how well that has worked with Americas “War on Drugs”..

I fully support Dakta and hope you do open up more coffee shops. The people of NZ need to stand up for their rights.

Thank you for standing up for our counter culture Mr Green. We are not bad people, we do not deserve the discrimination and disproportionate punishment.

Simply because we choose a drug that is safer is no reason for persecution.

Yes yes yes. It is “high” time Nz woke up and smelled the herb. We have been under the mass oppresion of the brewerys and organised crime for too long, legal home cultivation has got to happen, to take the criminals out of the dak scene should be our first priority as these mongrels have destroyed the true meaning and use of MJ, it is not about money. I have grown at home for many years and have not sold a bud yet. I am a proffesional with a family, i pay my taxes and i dont drink ( sick of social programming that piss is good and acceptable ) and will continue to try and outgrow the government. heres the message: Love thy neighbour and hook him up, stop selling and destroy the black market, if weed is worthless the crims wont sell it and then the police wont care. Freeing the weed starts at home yall and starts with you. Next crop is a skunky one and will be given freely. might pop up to the Daktory for some hand outs…………..

Its time for Everyone to come out the closet and stand up together and say YES WE SMOKE CANNABIS AND WE ARE GOOD PEOPLE!!!
What happens when the majority of the 800,000 New Zealander’s come out the closet? Change starts to happen.

Cannabis is illegal due to political reasons, die to previous Government from way back in the early 1900′s,
Its an issue that the Government have been avoiding for a long time and its time to change that, and protect us Cannabis smokers by law, just like Tobacco and Alcohol.

Since the Raid so many people have come out the closet including a lot of people from TV3 lol.

Should be interesting to see what happens now…

  6. Zedd says:

3 cheers for the Dakta… PROHIBITION is the crime, not personal use of Cannabis !!

  7. Dakta Tree says:

Sorry I couldn’t make it today to surport you. You’r doing an awesome job keep it up.

  8. dakta big boy says:

the law is fucked, we re all good people who chose one form of relaxation over another. why should i have to hang around car parks in the darkness to meet some dude whos going to skank me with the possibility of getting nicked. bring on orld wide daktorys. i work 40 to 60 hours per week filling the governments coffers, i dont wanna get pissed i wanna cotch with the missus in front of the tv and get high without being classed as a crim, the givernment wats me to go out get wasted and have a fight, bollox!!!

  9. dakta big boy says:

IS THE DAKTORY STILL OPEN AFTER THE RAID??????????????????????????????

  10. The Daktory is open as per normal :)

  11. Dakta SiFFiN says:

Yep Dakta Bourbon is correct, we ant letting the Police stop us, We all need to stand strong and come out of weed closet and fight this together

  12. Benny Bonsai says:

Excellent to see our neighbours standing up for what is truly right and just. The value of cannabis as a herbal option to synthesised medicines is only one of numerous everyday uses we can utilise it for.

I’d love to know how something like this would go in Australia, as we’re heading in the right direction for THC legalisation as a mouth-spray.

  13. Dakta B'Dango says:

All this recent activity has personally left me HIGHLY motivated & has spurred many people on within our community (myself included) to redouble our efforts.

Personally i want 2 see The Daktory expand & have a presence in Manukau City a.s.a.p

Once we go nation wide the next logical step would be to transfer The Daktory concept into the global arena.

When u break it down like that, its also perfectly logical 2 hope that our efforts & sacrafices will not only contribute towards the total & utter destruction of the wall of prohibition, but also a better world.

    Muchos Aroha

I am genuinely positive about the future of cannabis law reform in this beautiful country, the movement is gathering momentum all over the world and balls are being put on the line here so to speak. I salute all involved 8)

  16. ash says:

more smokes should standout and speak up because our wider smoking community deserves to smoke without getting a charge as minor as this ..if it was legal police will be freed up to get the real crims that are still running free today,e.g rapists, abusers, thieves, etc.. instead of processing the amount of cannibis smokers as they are..and crime levels will drop due to police having 60-80% more of a chance to clean our streets of real rims

  17. Hey does anyone know what the Judges ruling was? It said she’s reserved her decision till tuesday, but I haven’t seen or heard anything about that outcome? Isnt it funny how many people are classifed as criminals just because they are able to reveal them to themselves through the sacred act of smoking cannabis? Also, if we all now can excersie our opinions so freely why has nobody setup a guide to how we can start the process of law change ourselves, from voting to politicians to law reform to freedom. Maybe if we start with hemp then we can follow through to that outcome?

  18. Greg says:

In NZ doctors tell me they will not issue scripts for sativex as it is to hard under current legislation.

It remains a cruel and severe punishment to keep the life sustaining herb away from the chronically ill. I am buoyed by the action Dakta Green has claimed and taken in our courts. Whilst it is wrong to keep cannabis from the healthy in our great land. to prevent its use by the chronically sick and dying is not something morally caring citizens should be forced to endure. The sick should also not have to endure it.

  19. While planning to kick the habit, I have discovered the electronic cigarette. The e-cigarette wotks on a nicotine liquid that contains nothing but nicotine. No cancerous substances all that. They’ve literally made all the difference. No more inhaling and exhaling toxic chemicals feels very good to me!
