MY LETTER OF COMPLAINT:

Broadcasting Act 1989 section D:
A controversial issue of public importance (the campaign for decriminalization of cannabis results in many arrests every month) was shown in a purely negative light. There was no instance of a reflection of a positive viewpoint which is in fact the popular public viewpoint at this time, which is critical to the aforementioned campaign. This documentary was delivered in a broadcast purporting to be of unbiased “news-reporting” nature. I believe this serves to undermine democracy by suggesting to the public that their own viewpoints are unpopular. It is unjust to allow careless television broadcasts such as this to manipulate public opinion. I cannot stress enough how much damage this has done.

Broadcasting Act 1989 section B:
The maintenance of law and order was ignored during the broadcast as you can clearly see the programmers’ support of a hostile, aggressive man making threats to the health and safety of the activists. This includes aggressive, threatening language, both verbal and non-verbal.
The inclusion of footage, inaction and non-commentary of the programmers clearly shows the support of pretext to violence towards the activists. It is a form of bullying, and the message being shown is inarguably that it is okay to bully those who are behaving differently. I question whether this is legal, but I do not question whether this is ethical and humane.
As the BSA is our only representation of justice and moderation of the messages being broadcast to our country, I insist that you take action to the fullest extent of the law and your capabilities.
