Harper’s Youtube Political Dilemma: Cannabis Legalization

“It sounded like a good idea at the time”. I fully expect those to be the words beginning to thrum in the mind of Canada’s Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, following his announced acceptance of Google’s offer to stream his response to the throne speech today, and to answer YouTubers’ questions on YouTube next Tuesday, March 16th. It is a decision that has put him in an uncomfortable spot with respect to the issue of marijuana legalization. Read the rest of this entry »

Marijuana legalization: As a precaution, Mason Tvert files language to put it on November ballot

    By Joel Warner

Pot advocate Mason Tvert filed language on Wednesday for a November ballot initiative that would allow Coloradans 21 and older to use marijuana. Does that mean Colorado is about to be embroiled in a full-scale movement to legalize weed?

    Not necessarily.
“There isn’t some large campaign being launched,” says Tvert, reached during a business trip in San Francisco. “It’s just something we wanted to make sure was possible if we decided to do it.” He explains the he and his colleagues at SAFER, the marijuana reform organization Tvert runs, wanted to file the appropriate paperwork for such a contingency before key election deadlines had passed. But they’re far from launching an official political operation. Read the rest of this entry »

Robbie Williams angers drug campaigners by calling cannabis a ‘lovely drug’

Robbie Williams has described cannabis as a “lovely drug”, sparking fury among campaigners.

The singer, who has battled addiction and depression, admitted the drug made his weight balloon and affected his mental wellbeing.

But he added: “Weed, it’s such a lovely drug. It is such a lovely drug. But it doesn’t mix well with me at all.

“It doesn’t take much to trigger – I mean, I’ll get psychosis from having this cup of tea! Seriously. The caffeine in that’s enough “But it’s just a shame about weed, because I did love it.” Read the rest of this entry »

  • Cannabis users different from ‘true drug cheats’

By TONY SMITH – The Press

A Christchurch sports lawyer has questioned whether sports people using cannabis should be treated with the same severity as “true drug cheats” who take performance enhancing or masking drugs.

Ian Hunt represented Canterbury rugby league player Vince Whare, who has been banned for 10 years by the Sports Tribunal of New Zealand for a third cannabis offence.

The World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) code requires third-time doping offenders to be suspended for life although the ban can be reduced to a minimum of eight years. It does not draw a clear distinction in terms of penalties for recreational drugs like cannabis and sanctions for taking performance-enhancing substances. Read the rest of this entry »

A Rancho Cordova-based insurer Monday launched what it calls the first nationally available insurance coverage designed specifically for the medical marijuana industry.

Only 14 states allow use of medical marijuana today, but Statewide Insurance Services is nonetheless offering coverage in all 50 states.

“Given the growth in the industry, I think it’s only a matter of time” before other states allow medical marijuana, said Mike Aberle, a commercial insurance agent with the local firm and national director of its Medical Marijuana Specialty Division.

He added: “Now that we can offer (services) in all 50 states, we can start the minute they go legal, without delay.” Read the rest of this entry »

  • Complain to the Broadcasting Standards Authority

After the disgracefully one sided story that was shown on Tv1′s Close Up last night, we are encouraging everyone to send letters of complaint to the Broadcasting Standards Authority.

Considering the introductory segment of the article shows it as “Reefer Madness,” there is clearly going to be some classic Government/Media cover up involved.

Watch the story, or read the article for yourself if you haven’t already and judge it for yourself. We also have the original post on our site, with some comments.

Thanks to Hybrid for the link and excerpts.
