According to new poll, majority of Americans support marijuana legalization

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) – Many adults in the United States are willing to legalize marijuana, according to a poll by Angus Reid Public Opinion. 53 per cent of respondents support this notion, while 43 per cent are opposed.
Less than 10 per cent of respondents support the legalization of other drugs, such as ecstasy, powder cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine or “crystal meth” and crack cocaine.
The use of marijuana is illegal in the U.S. except in some regulated cases of medical use. The amount allowed for such purposes varies depending on the state. Some states have passed laws to reduce law enforcement for possession of small amounts of the substance. Read the rest of this entry »

Czech Govt Allows 5 Cannabis Plants For Personal Use From 2010

The interim Czech government, led by chief statistician-turned-Prime Minister Jan Fischer, Monday took another step towards making casual marijuana smoking a worry-free affair.
Fischer’s cabinet defined what constitutes “small amounts” of cannabis for personal use, clarifying the country’s new penal code that from next year decriminalizes cultivation and possession of the plant by individuals.
As of Jan. 1 ordinary Czechs can grow up to five marijuana plants or have several marijuana cigarettes in their pockets without fear of criminal prosecution. The 59-year-old has been jailed in California and New Zealand for cultivating cannabis but has no plans to change his ways.
Dakta is a strong activist for law reform surrounding the drug and has been pushing for its legalisation since 1999.

Though many people can be technically addicted to Marijuana, it is no different from being addicted to video games or McDonalds. You can become addicted to the feeling, which of course is a high amount of dopamine released while high, which happens whenever you do something you love.

Hamas Approves Law To Execute Pot Dealers In Gaza

Selling pot can now officially get you killed in Gaza City — by the government, that is.

49% in California Favor Legalizing, Taxing Pot

The plurality of voters in California continues to support legalizing and taxing marijuana in order to solve some of the state’s ongoing budget problems.
The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the state shows that 49% support the idea, while 38% are opposed. Just 12% are undecided.
Voters are slightly more supportive of the idea than they were in July, when 47% favored legalization and taxation of pot and 42% were opposed.
Nationally, 41% of voters think the United States should legalize and tax marijuana to help solve the nation’s fiscal problems, but 49% are against the idea.
California now faces a near $21-billion deficit over the next 18 months.
Most men in California (55%) support the legalization and taxation of marijuana, compared to 45% of women.
Democrats support the idea much more strongly than Republicans and voters not affiliated with either of the major parties.
A California state law passed in 1996 decriminalized marijuana for medical use, and in 2003 a ballot measure specified the drug could be cultivated and distributed to prescription-holding patients through nonprofit collectives.
